Food for thought
Ronald Reagan - divorced the mother of two of his children to marry Nancy Reagan who bore him a daughter only 7 months after the marriage.

Bob Dole - divorced the mother of his child, who had nursed him through the long recovery from his war wounds.

Newt Gingrich - divorced his wife who was dying of cancer.

Dick Armey - House Majority Leader - divorced

Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas - divorced

Gov. John Engler of Michigan - divorced

Former Gov. Pete Wilson of California - divorced

George Will - divorced

Sen. Lauch Faircloth - divorced

Rush Limbaugh - Rush and his current wife Marta have six marriages  and four divorces between them.

Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia - Barr, not yet 50 years old, has been married three times.  Barr had the audacity to author and push the  "Defense of Marriage Act."  The current joke making the rounds on Capitol Hill is "Bob Barr...WHICH marriage are you defending?"

Sen. Alfonse D'Amato of New York - divorced

Sen. John Warner of Virginia - divorced (once married to Liz Taylor)

Gov. George Allen of Virginia - divorced

Henry Kissinger - divorced

Rep. Helen Chenoweth of Idaho - divorced

Sen. John McCain of Arizona - divorced

Rep. John Kasich of Ohio - divorced

Rep. Susan Molinari of New York - Republican National Convention Keynote Speaker - divorced

And on and on....

Don't worry about homosexuals destroying  the institution of marriage.  The Christian Republicans are doing a fine job without anyone's help!

Current Mood: cynical
Current Music: TV noise

I am sure homosexuals getting married will end even more marriages. What a joke!!!

Makes you just want to shake your head in disbelief.

Nope, no trend here, lol.

Maybe we can actually lead my example, wouldn't that be a slap in the head to the rest of them!

I doubt if we would do any worse, that is for sure.

wow.. that is so pitiful.

No doubt that is just the tip of the iceberg. It would be interesting to find out the personal details on all the bigots who are rushing to deny us equal rights.

I think on that one, they all stand firmly behind the separation of church and state! Funny how things work huh :)

Both of my senators are on this list. I think I will send them a shame on you note along with this list.

very interesting observation. there's no way they can defend that.

"Newt Gingrich - divorced his wife who was dying of cancer."

He divorced her while she was dying?? what a big ass! x(

Yeah, he did. Makes you wonder what these weenies do for ethics and morality.

I don't think most people view marriage as a lifetime commitment anymore. Rick and I look on our marriage as forever.

Pete Engler is no longer governor of Michigan. We now have a white female democrat.
a_trick_mind From: [info]a_trick_mind Date: March 9th, 2004 04:09 pm (UTC) (Link)
That has got to be an improvement.

Dunno, she's the only one that's been governor while I've been here. As far as I can tell, she's handled things pretty well, I liked how she managed during the power outage.

The difference being....they divorced people of the opposite sex.
lol!

Its so sad how their minds work. Their own sins are forgiven because they are christians and should be only between themselves and god. But what they deem sin in other.....thats their responsibility to punish.
Not only punish but use as a scape goat for all the ill in the world.

There must be some good way to turn all their bull shit around so it bites them in the ass.
martyhoodlum From: [info]martyhoodlum Date: March 9th, 2004 05:34 pm (UTC) (Link)
AMEN to that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a_trick_mind From: [info]a_trick_mind Date: March 10th, 2004 04:52 am (UTC) (Link)
Speaking of "amen", maybe we need to get some of the religious people to start speaking out against the amendment and create a split among the religious folks.
milamberrex From: [info]milamberrex Date: March 9th, 2004 06:29 pm (UTC) (Link)
not that it ever would happen, but i've been saying that the proposed marriage amendment needs to be amended to outlaw divorce and to make it illegal for widows and widowers to remarry in order to make the amendment distasteful to it's supportors. afterall, it's supposed to defend the sanctity of marriage. If we can't prevent the amendment from going forward, we should at least try to get enough biblical junk attached to it so that most people could not dare stand to vote for it.

big dream, i know.
a_trick_mind From: [info]a_trick_mind Date: March 10th, 2004 04:51 am (UTC) (Link)
You might be on to something. At least it could be tied up in committee for a looooooooooooooong time.
milamberrex From: [info]milamberrex Date: March 10th, 2004 09:16 am (UTC) (Link)
and that's the general idea. attach so much "defense of marriage" crap to it that no one wants it to pass. it's all well and good to most if you single out marriage to be defended against us damn homos, but once you start making divorce, etc, more difficult or illegal, the mentality shifts to wait a minute, that's us.

if they want defense of marriage let's give it to them. no divorces, no seperations, no remarrying after the death of a spouse, etc. make it biblical and then start a cultural war on how if it's gonna be biblical then make it truly biblical rather than pick the category you want to discriminate against.

then again, maybe i'm the only one that feels that way.

Thank you. The world needs people who see reason...
a_trick_mind From: [info]a_trick_mind Date: March 10th, 2004 04:55 am (UTC) (Link)
Everyone needs to raise the issue and keep it raised until people see the amendmend movement for what it is, bigotry and homophobia.
housespinner From: [info]housespinner Date: March 9th, 2004 08:43 pm (UTC) (Link)
I don't think it's a gay issue. As Howard Dean said, it's a civil rights issue. Bush is just using this issue to get his religious fundamentalist base mobilized....and it's working. Gays are the last safe scapegoat to hate. :|
a_trick_mind From: [info]a_trick_mind Date: March 10th, 2004 04:58 am (UTC) (Link)
You are right, of course it is a civil rights issue, although they would argue marriage is not a right. We need to work to ensure that there are no more scapegoats to hate. History is on our side but we must make history sooner than later.
housespinner From: [info]housespinner Date: March 10th, 2004 06:20 am (UTC) (Link)
Well as with every civil rights movement, it's the same side that wants to deprive the minority group the rights...and they use the bible to do it.
